Filmed over a period of six months, this social documentary feature film produced by the Open University and the Hunnia Filmstudio shows the lives of Roma families in a small village in Hajdu-Bihar county, north-east Hungary, on the border with Romania. Unemployment is close to 100 per cent in this community, and isolation, poverty and discrimination create a situation in which families find it hard to live decent lives. The film focuses on the experiences of three families - their fears of children being taken into care, and the ever-present challenges of finding enough food to eat and wood to heat their houses. Life for both children and adults is stressful and hope is hard to find with local services struggling to find ways to help people out of their desperate situations.© Hunnia Filmstudio Ltd. - The Open University
